Gerry is Chair of the firm’s Litigation practice group. He has more than 40 years of litigation
experience ranging from simple disputes to the most complex cases. Gerry represents clients
on a wide array of issues before courts at all levels of the Minnesota and U.S. Judicial Systems.
He is admitted to practice in Minnesota State and Federal District Court; U.S. Court of Appeals
for Armed Forces; Eastern District of Wisconsin; Southern District of Ohio; Southern District of
Pennsylvania; Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals; and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition, he is
admitted to the United States Supreme Court. He has successfully handled complex litigation
in Federal and State courts throughout the United States. Gerry works with corporate general
counsel as well as local counsel in many jurisdictions.
He handles cases in many areas, including:
- Anti-trust;Condemnation, land use, zoning and permitting issues;
- Real estate litigation;
- Contract disputes, both domestic and international;
- Construction arbitration/mediation, contractor/subcontractor disputes;
- Product liability defense;
- Employment litigation;
- Insurance disputes;
- Shareholder/partnership disputes; and
- Environmental defense litigation.
Gerry works extensively with private interests, landowners and developers on all aspects of real
estate matters, including: land use, condemnation/inverse condemnation, zoning, permitting,
platting, environmental reviews (i.e. Alternative Areawide Reviews (“AUAR”), Environmental
Assessment Worksheets (“EAW”), and Environmental Impact Statements (“EIS”)). His
clients include many large aggregate suppliers, and he is actively involved in getting their operations zoned and permitted in
municipalities and counties around Minnesota and Wisconsin. While representing his clients,
Gerry has developed good working relationships with various municipalities, counties and state
government agencies to aid his clients in getting the necessary approvals.
Over the years, Gerry has cultivated a wide network of clients, engineers, experts, and
colleagues to benefit all of the clients he represents. This network is a valuable resource and
ensures the client’s interests are furthered and goals met. He is widely respected in many
industry groups and trade associations and is considered a pioneer in the modern method of
zoning, permitting, and operating gravel mining operations. As a “counselor,” Gerry is known for
putting his clients’ minds at ease.
In his spare time, he enjoys reading, downhill skiing, and spending time with his family, including
his three grand-daughters.
